CLEVELAND — Cleveland police confirm one person is dead and two others are injured following a shooting in Old Brooklyn late Thursday afternoon, with the alleged suspect later dying by suicide.
Officials tell 3News the incident occurred around 5 p.m. within the 2700 block of Natchez Avenue. In a press release, authorities said a 22-year-old man got into an argument with a 24-year-old woman before he pulled out a gun and shot her, while also hitting another 21-year-old woman as well as a 26-year-old man.
Upon arriving on scene, officers reported chasing the suspect before he shot himself. He was taken by ambulance to MetroHealth Medical Center, but died there from his injuries. His name has not been released at this time.
The 24-year-old woman whom witnesses said had been arguing with the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. She has been identified by the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner as Yahriesha Ortiz.
In addition, the two other victims were taken to Metro and are said to be in stable condition, with at least one suffering serious injuries.
At this time, police are treating the shooting as a murder-suicide. However, the investigation remains active.
