Cleveland police: 3 teens arrested for string of car break-ins

Three males, ages 14, 16 and 17, are alleged to have been involved in 14 reported car break-ins in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood on Thursday.

CLEVELAND — Cleveland police on Tuesday night arrested three teenage boys accused of a string of car break-ins in the Detroit Shoreway neighborhood — and police believe the teens may have been involved in "many" more break-ins over the past several weeks.

According to a release from the Cleveland Division of Police, three males, ages 14, 16 and 17, are believed to have been involved in 14 reported car break-ins on Thursday. The suspects were located using "technology and investigative techniques," police said.

"I am proud of the hard work our officers and detectives put into investigating, tracking, and arresting these individuals," Chief Annie Todd said. "Both the community and our Division have felt the impact of these crimes, and it was a priority for us to bring these suspects into custody."

Police say the teens were allegedly in possession of a car reported stolen out of Cleveland Heights, and one teen was arrested with a stolen firearm.

In addition to the Detroit Shoreway break-ins Thursday, police believe the teens were involved in "many other break-ins over the past few weeks." Police said the investigations into the teens' involvement in those alleged crimes is "ongoing."

Two of the teens are being held at the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center. The third was released with a GPS monitor, police said.
