CLEVELAND — An investigation is underway after a Cleveland police cruiser was struck by gunfire during an overnight incident.
Cleveland police say they responded to a call for shots fired at around 1:30 a.m. on Tuesday in the 9300 block of Pratt Avenue.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers began speaking to victims who reported that a "vehicle drove by their home and opened fire."
Cleveland police say within two minutes of the officers' arrival, a vehicle drove by and fired multiple shots in the officers' direction. Due to the rapidly evolving situation, police say they did not return gunfire.
Following an investigation, it was determined that the officers' police car had been struck by gunfire during the incident. Police noted that thankfully, no one was injured.
“I am grateful this incident did not result in injuries to the citizens and officers,” said Cleveland Police Chief Dorothy Todd in a statement. “We will investigate this incident thoroughly until those responsible are located and arrested."
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cleveland Division of Police's Fourth District Detective Bureau at 216-623-5418.
