CLEVELAND — Cleveland Police Chief Annie Todd says one suspect was shot by law enforcement officers during a confrontation in the city's Brooklyn Centre neighborhood Monday evening.
According to Todd, officers from the Cleveland's violent crime reduction team as well as Northeast Ohio's Crime Gun Intelligence Center task force were in the area of West 31st Street and Denison Avenue "looking for suspects involved in several violent crimes throughout the city." Around 6:20 p.m., Todd says the officers located the suspects, who then opened fire on the officers.
Per Todd, the officers returned gunfire and shot one of the suspects. That person has since been transported to MetroHealth Medical Center with unknown injuries.
Of the three officers involved, two are members of the Cleveland Division of Police while another was with the CGIC task force, Todd told reporters. None were injured in the incident.
Todd says two suspects are currently in custody and authorities recovered "several firearms" from the scene that are believed to have belonged to the suspects. The chief could not say of any other suspects are still at large.
