CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police has safely recovered missing 5-year-old Zanaya Thomas, who was allegedly kidnapped by her mother's live-in boyfriend late Monday afternoon.

According to officials, the girl was recovered safely and the mother's boyfriend, 24-year-old James Hardges, is currently in police custody.

Officials were called to the 14200 block of Kingsford Road around 6 p.m. Monday for reports of a kidnapped child. Upon arrival, officers spoke with Zanaya's mother who told them that 24-year-old James Hardges came to the home with a group of people, one who brandished a firearm, and kidnapped the 5-year-old.

Police tell 3News that the incident possibly stemmed from accusations of the young girl being assaulted in the home.

Following a check of numerous locations, Zanaya and Hardges were still not located, leading to officials asking for the public's assistance in locating the pair, believed to have been traveling in a maroon GMC Envoy, with Pennsylvania plate, 'LLF 6539.'
