Cleveland city employee hurt in early morning shooting; suspect arrested

A spokesperson for Cleveland told 3News that the man shot was a city employee. Police arrested 39-year-old Aisha Schwartz, with charges pending.

CLEVELAND — An investigation is underway after a man was shot in Cleveland on Thursday, April 18.

A City of Cleveland spokesperson told 3News that the man shot was a city employee. The Cleveland Division of Police arrested 39-year-old Aisha Schwartz in connection with the shooting.

Cleveland police say the incident happened at around 5:40 a.m. in the 2300 block of East 65th Street. 

According to court documents, Schwartz followed the victim to his workplace when she got into the front passenger seat of his truck. She took a loaded firearm from the vehicle's center console and told the victim "I'm going to kill you."

She fired three shots at the man as he exited the vehicle and ran for cover. One of the shots struck the victim in the right shoulder. The bullet traveled from his right shoulder into his esophagus. She fled the area in another vehicle, but was arrested shortly after.

Schwartz did not have the gun in her possession when she was arrested and refused to tell officers where she left it.

The victim was taken to a local hospital by EMS. No updates have been given on the status of his health at this time.

She has been charged with the following:

  • Attempted murder
  • Aggravated robbery
  • Tampering with evidence

The was arraigned on Monday morning and given a $75,000 bond. Her next court date is on Monday, April 29.

At this time, the shooting remains under investigation.
