CLEVELAND — As the world mourns the death of Queen Elizabeth II, the city of Cleveland is paying tribute to Her Majesty in a very special way.
While the Terminal Tower in downtown Cleveland has been known to illuminate the city’s skyline in specific colors to recognize a variety of different occasions, the skyscraper instead honored the Queen by turning off its colored lights.
“The Terminal Tower will go dark tonight, in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II,” according to a post on the Terminal Tower’s Twitter account Thursday.
3News’ Austin Love captured an image of the tower early Friday morning, which you can see below:
This tribute is the same thing Paris did with its Eiffel Tower in remembrance of Queen Elizabeth II.
Back in April of 2016, the Terminal Tower was among multiple Cleveland buildings illuminated in purple to pay tribute to music icon Prince after his death (see below).
Queen Elizabeth II died Thursday at the age of 96 at Balmoral Castle in Scotland after spending 70 years as Britain's monarch. Her eldest son now takes the throne as King Charles III.
