CLEVELAND — It's been a month since the Cleveland Zoo's newest sloth bear cub made her public debut.
Now, the female cub is finally ready for a name.
On Monday, the zoo announced the naming contest for the cub, in which zoo guests can vote on one of three names. Online votes are also accepted with a donation to the zoo here.
The three name options are:
- Lali: meaning darling
- Nisha: meaning night
- Shala: an homage to mom, Shiva, and dad, Balawat
The names are unique to sloth bears' native regions of India.
Voting runs through May 27, and votes can be cast at the sloth bear habitat at the zoo. The cub's name will be selected based on the name that receives the highest donation total. Donations will benefit sloth bears in the wild.
