Soaring through the sky: Take a ride on the new zip line experience at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo

The zip line takes riders along a 700-foot journey at speeds up to 35 mph.

CLEVELAND — Are you ready for a wild adventure at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo? A new zip line attraction that gives guests the opportunity to soar above the zoo at speeds up to 35 mph is now open.

The Eagle Zip Adventure, which features dual zip lines, stretches 700 feet long. The zip line experience begins on a ride platform next to Wade Hall. Once secured, riders are lifted up to a 150-foot tower.

But this isn't your traditional zip line. For this one, you're seated in a chair.

3News' Austin Love was be among the first to climb aboard the zip line. You can watch his experience in the player at the top of this story.

“What this does is allows you to sit in a chair, you go up and back, start and stop in the same place," says Dr. Chris Kuhar, executive director of the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo.

Then, there's a brief pause with a view of downtown Cleveland before riders are released.

“It’s unlike anything else we have at the zoo," Dr. Kuhar says.

Zoo officials say this family friendly experience allows for two riders per car.

Eagle Zip Adventure is $8 per rider or $7 for members. Riders can also purchase a video of their experience, which is recorded from multiple camera angles. The minimum rider height is 42" to ride with an adult or 48" to ride alone. maximum weight is 300 pounds per rider or 450 pounds for two riders combined.

The zip line is open daily from 10:30 a.m. until 5 p.m. Zoo officials say it will also be open for special events – including this year’s Asian Lantern Festival, giving guests a chance to experience the thrills after dark.

Tickets to ride the Eagle Zip Adventure can be purchased at the Circle of Wildlife Carousel and the 4-D Theater.
