CMSD disputes concerning photo of Luis Munoz Marin School bathroom

CLEVELAND -- Election Day at the polls was an eye-opening one for Michelle Laboo.

She says she was assigned to work the polls at Luis Munoz Marin Elementary School on Castle Avenue in Cleveland, where she claims she encountered broken toilets, mold and overall filth.

She even shared pictures and videos with Channel 3 News, which she says, proves what she saw.

By the end of the day, Laboo claims six toilets were clogged in two girls’ restrooms.

But Roseann Canfora, spokeswoman for the Cleveland Metropolitan School District, says that was not the case. She said a custodian for the school reported only two clogged toilets and one broken urinal by the time the last poll worker left at 9:30 Tuesday night. They were covered in plastic until they were repaired.

Canfora said crews worked late to ensure all bathrooms were operational by the morning. Students and parents said Thursday they were not aware of any problems in the school bathrooms in the past.

CMSD also shared photos of the school's bathrooms today.

Canfora issued a statement on the district's behalf:

"Our restrooms at Marin were used that day by our own 565 students, 150 students attending Boys & Girls Club activities after school, in addition to voters and elections workers who left the building at 8:30 p.m."

Canfora's statement also says one urinal is clogged as of Wednesday afternoon, and is currently being repaired.

"The photo sent to you does not represent actual conditions of the bathrooms at our school," she added.
