Colossal Cupcakes on Euclid Ave pushes reopening to Spring 2021

After being vandalized during the downtown riots in May, the Colossal Cupcakes on Euclid Ave. has pushed its reopening to early Spring 2021.

CLEVELAND — After an initially peaceful protest in downtown Cleveland following George Floyd's death turned violent, one of the businesses in the area that found itself the most visibly damaged was Colossal Cupcakes on Euclid Ave.

And while the local cupcake shop had initially hoped to reopen its doors this fall, it appears that won't be the case.

Taking to Facebook late last week, Colossal Cupcakes CEO and founder Kelly Kandah shared an update on her store's progress. In doing so, she revealed that as a result of damages that exceeded the original expectations, the store has pushed its targeted reopening date from this fall to early-Spring 2021.

"I announced back in early July that the Euclid Avenue location would reopen by the end of fall. As we started the rebuilding process and damages were fully assessed, we found that the cosmetic and visible destruction had far exceeded what we had originally anticipated," Kandah wrote. "Nonetheless, we are continuing to work with our insurance agency, Jackson Dieken & Associates, as well as our insurance company, Cincinnati Insurance, to determine our level of coverage and move us towards implementing a plan that will ensure that the property will be restored to its original state.

"Unfortunately, due to these developments, the original goal of reopening this fall has been postponed. While this has presented itself as a slight setback, rest assured that Colossal Cupcakes on Euclid Avenue WILL reopen. My goal is to have this store open by our 9th anniversary in early spring 2021."

While the reopening of its flagship store has been delayed, Kandah said that a third Colossal Cupcakes location at 1300 East 9th Street is in full “go mode" and will be opening this winter.

"I would like to extend my deepest thanks to everyone in the community for your ongoing support," she wrote. "Over the past six months you have given me the courage, strength, and motivation to rebuild and come back stronger than ever."
