CLEVELAND — Since Lucky's Market filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in January, there has been plenty of speculation about the future of its locations in Ohio.

On Friday, the future became clear when the Saltzman family, owners of Dave's Markets, announced that it has acquired the Lucky's Market locations in both Cleveland and Columbus.

The Saltzman family put out the following statement:

"The Saltzman family is excited to announce the forthcoming acquisition of the Lucky’s Markets locations in Cleveland and Columbus. With long time roots in the city of Cleveland and as proud Buckeye alumni, the family has strong Ohio ties.  The Saltzman’s are looking forward to retaining the store team members and continuing to provide the Lucky’s shopping experience."

The decision by Lucky's to file for Chapter 11 protection came after Kroger announced in December that it planned to divest its stake in the chain. As a result, Lucky's closed 32 of its 39 stores by early February. Its stores in Cleveland and Columbus were two of the seven that stayed open.

Lucky’s had 17 stores when it announced the Kroger investment in April 2016. It opened its store on Cleveland's west side in 2018.
