'The Turn' helps Northeast Ohio's disabled veterans come together through golf

Program Director Trevor Hazen: 'We work with three different groups from the VA health system here as well as Wounded Warrior Project.'

NORTH OLMSTED, Ohio — "The Turn" is a community program that helps people and veterans with disabilities to practice adaptive golf and golf fitness.

Today veterans from the VA enjoyed some time on the putting green at North Olmsted Golf Club before the weather moved them indoors.

Navy veteran amputee William Searles said the program helps him with his balance, "I haven't quite got the ability to balance on one leg yet, but I’m working on it."

"We work with three different groups from the VA health system here as well as Wounded Warrior Project." said Program Director Trevor Hazen from The Turn. "Our mission is to improve the health and wellness of the physically disabled community."

Hazen also said that golf fitness improves the social and emotional well-being for people and improves their confidence.

3news asked Searles how he felt about having other veterans surround him for a program like this, "we understand one another and everybody got something wrong."
