Downtown Cleveland Alliance creates official 'busker' program

Apply to be a street performer at Downtown Cleveland Alliance's website and perform on the streets of Downtown Cleveland!

CLEVELAND — Do you have a talent worthy of showing off on the streets of downtown Cleveland? The Downtown Cleveland Alliance is creating an official "Busker" program for you to entertain!

What is "Busking"? It is the street performance of art, theatre, dance or music in a public space with the purpose to entertain and engage.

According to the Downtown Cleveland Alliance, the busker program will allow for performances on the streets of Downtown Cleveland including:

  • Balloon Twisting 
  • Caricatures
  • Clowning
  • Comedy
  • Dance
  • Singing
  • Street Theatre
  • Juggling
  • Magic
  • Mime
  • Living Statue
  • Musical Performance
  • Puppeteering
  • Poetry

Performances will take place in designated areas called "pitches". The performing locations will be on public property, out of the public right-of-way and within approved hours.

These location maps provided by Downtown Cleveland Alliance show where the various "pitches" will be located. Each location is noted by the white star inside of a black circle:

Interested entertainers can apply by filling out the Street Performer Application. Once approved you will be able to reserve times and dates for the pitches you wish to perform at.

Downtown Cleveland Alliance provides a disclaimer on any expectation of monetary payment:

"A street performer is not normally paid and works to obtain donations, or 'tips', which can be money or gifts given by the general public in appreciation of the performance. There is no obligation for the person being entertained to give any compensation for the performance."
