CLEVELAND -- The Solders and Sailors Monument on Public Square was vandalized overnight, and the whole incident was caught on tape.

Around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday, a group of six or seven people can be seen on security cameras around the monument.

Officials believe they may have come from a club, because they were carrying glow sticks.

The video shows three or four people from the group actually climbing up onto the statue.

According to Tim Daley, Executive Director of the monument, a large chunk of the statue was broken off and was later recovered nearby.

Daley says a bronze expert will have to be brought in for expensive repairs.

Police will circulate the video shortly, in hopes of finding the suspects.

The suspects face felony charges. Vandalizing a war memorial is a federal offense.

Anyone with information is asked to call Cleveland Police at 216-623-5000.
