Exclusive: New complex in Ohio City to be called 'INTRO'

Project promises to 'introduce' something new.

CLEVELAND — The new apartment structure going in across the street from the West Side Market now has a name: “INTRO.”

Until now, it was loosely referred to as the “Market Square” project after the current shopping strip which was built in the 1970s. Dan Whalen of Harbor Bay Real Estate says “INTRO” is “introducing something that’s never been seen before in this city,” calling it “an amazing A+ location.”

“It’s going to be truly special, directly across the street from one of Cleveland’s most historic buildings,” Whalen shared in an email.

Not only will it be near the West Side Market, RTA and new Metroparks trails, it will also be near Sam McNulty’s bars and restaurants.

“Hardly a day goes by when someone doesn’t reach out and say, ‘I’m looking for a place in Ohio City. I want to live close to the action and they can’t find it,’” McNulty said, pointing out that smaller more affordable “micro apartments” in the new building will appeal to younger renters.

“Apartment developers are starting to build right-sized apartments. Making them a little bit smaller, a little more affordable, adding amenities,” he said. “If you’re going to have people over, you’re going to meet them at the bar or the coffee shop.”

“INTRO” will be 9 stories, offer 300 apartments, underground parking, and 40,000 square feet of retail space. Its exterior will feature an innovative use of timber.

This week, it was among two residential projects to receive financial incentives from the city. The other was Tinnerman Lofts along Fulton Road near Lorain Road in the old Vista Warehouse.
