CLEVELAND — Firefighters were called to the 8200 block of Lorain Avenue in Cleveland early Wednesday morning where a utility pole fell onto the roof and sparked a fire at the Lorain Branch of the Cleveland Public Library.
The library's site shows the branch is currently closed for renovations.
The Cleveland Fire Department says crews contained the flames using dry chemical extinguishers due to the electrical hazard while waiting for power to be cut.
Lorain Avenue was also closed from West 81st to West 83rd as a result of the fire.
No injuries were reported.
A spokesperson for the Cleveland Public Library says the overall damage to the building was not extensive. There was damage to the roof and the interior of the ceiling. Library officials are evaluating the fire's impact on the construction schedule. The branch is expected to open in March 2023.
