CLEVELAND — Crews are assessing the damage following a fire at a downtown Cleveland apartment complex Monday evening.
Officials say the blaze broke out around 7 p.m. on the ninth floor of St. Clair Place on East 13th Street. Smoke then spread to the 10th and 11th floors and was visible throughout the area as first responders evacuated the building.
"I looked over my balcony, and that was the scariest of all," resident Kathering Ganci told 3News. "Because you could see fire, red-hot fire shooting out both sides of that first apartment."
"When I came downstairs, there was so much fire coming out, and I was right there though," neighbor Theresa Bell added. "There was so much fire coming out of there, I'm like, 'This is crazy.'"
Authorities say the fire, which remains under investigation, was extinguished about at hour after it began. No injuries were reported.
