CLEVELAND — On September 19, Frank Q Jackson, grandson of Cleveland Mayor Frank G Jackson, was shot and killed outside Heritage View Homes in Cleveland. Just over one month out from his shooting, Cleveland police officers arrested a suspect in the murder.
On Wednesday, sources confirmed that 29-year-old Robert Shepard of Cleveland had been taken into custody near the intersection of East 46th Street and Central Avenue. Court records show that Shepard is currently being held and has been charged with aggravated murder.
A look into the 29-year-old's criminal history shows that he has a lengthy rap sheet with previous charges for assault, attempted aggravated burglary, carrying a concealed weapon, drug possession, and attempted failure to comply with an officer.
Today, sources confirmed to 3News' Lydia Esparra that members of the Cleveland Division of Police believe that Frank Q Jackson was lured to the area by Shepard to pick up his dirt bike.
Investigators say that video released on October 13 by Cleveland Metropolitan Housing Authority (CMHA) shows Shepard driving Frank Q Jackson's bike to the east side, where he was later shot and killed.
At this time, police officials tell 3News that they believe another suspect fired the weapon that killed the mayor's grandson.
