CLEVELAND — As inflation continues and grocery prices continue to jump, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank is doing its part to help the Northeast Ohio community.
For three hours on Thursday, the Greater Cleveland Food Bank hosted a drive-thru food distribution at the City of Cleveland Muni Lot on South Marginal Road.
"We are distributing at least 60,000 lbs of food every week to around 2,000 families in our Muni Lot distributions, and that’s just one distribution. On average, in a month, we could distribute upwards of 3-4 million lbs of food at our thousands of partner locations," explained Karen Pozna, communications director for the Greater Cleveland Food Bank.
3News' January Keaton spoke to several Cleveland residents who were grateful to be able to receive food during the event.
“Everything costs so much. I have 5 kids to feed," said Sandra, who is a mother of five. "Gas, food, everything is expensive. They make it so we can’t afford to supply for our families, so thank God for the extra help."
“We don’t have enough food in our home to eat, so I’m picking up food," said Cleveland resident Latrease. "Gas is high. Food is high. We gotta do this to offset the other stuff we gotta pay for.”

Also on Thursday, Greater Cleveland Food Bank partner Harvest for Hunger released the results of its annual community-wide food and funds drive. This year, Harvest for Hunger raised over $9.7 million dollars and received thousands of pounds of food donations. All of which will provide around 30 million meals to hunger relief organizations in Northeast Ohio.
