Hotel Cleveland to open in June following $90 million renovation

The grand opening will take place after nearly a decade of preparations for the $90 million restoration project at the property in Cleveland's Public Square.

CLEVELAND — After a $90 million renovation, Hotel Cleveland, Autograph Collection, is expected to open its doors in June.

The historic property, located at 24 Public Square in downtown Cleveland, has been undergoing a restoration project after nearly a decade of preparations.

The hotel will have 491 guest rooms, 50 suites, 30 meeting spaces and the largest Marriott ballroom in Ohio.

“Everyone has a story or memory connected to Hotel Cleveland and the other hospitality pioneers that stood at this address, and we’ve been collecting their stories and memories,” said Hotel Cleveland General Manager Frank McGee. “One of the many ways we embody this extraordinary city is by sharing those stories with guests as they move through the space, creating truly special moments for them.”

Hotel Cleveland originally opened in 1918, but has since changed its name to Cleveland City Hotel, Dunham House, Forest City House, Sheraton-Cleveland Hotel, Stouffer's Inn on the Square and most recently, Renaissance Cleveland Hotel.

Additionally, Hotel Cleveland will house two restaurants: Maker and Mowrey's.

Officials say that Maker is "destined to quickly become the city’s hottest spot for lunch, happy hours or dinner." The new restaurant will have a view of Public Square with a vibrant backdrop for chic décor, buttery leather seating, bespoke lamps shaded with vintage Cuyahoga riverfront images and an eyepopping back bar.

Mowrey’s nods to the site’s original 1800s tavern, which will offer ala carte American-style breakfast favorites with very special Cleveland twists.

Both restaurants are expected to have a soft opening the week of April 21.

Since Hotel Cleveland is a member of the Autograph Collection, guests can earn and redeem Marriott Bonvoy points during their stays and enjoy all the benefits of staying as a member.

Hotel Cleveland has a long history of hosting some of the world's most prestigious travelers. Some of those who have visited Hotel Cleveland have included Martin Luther King, Duke Ellington, Charles Lindbergh, Harry Truman, and Eleanor Roosevelt.
