CLEVELAND — Giraffe lovers have likely spent months watching the famous April and her baby via Animal Adventure Park's live stream.
Now, giraffe fans can see a baby giraffe right in our own backyard.
The Cleveland Metroparks Zoo on Tuesday announced the birth of a male giraffe, born April 15. He was 101 pounds and about 6 feet tall at birth, meaning he was on the small side as giraffes typically weigh around 150 pounds at birth.
The zoo says mother and baby are doing well, and can be seen in the giraffe barn. The zoo says the pair will soon join the rest of the herd in the outdoor habitat.
Naming opportunities for the calf will be announced in the coming weeks.
