Jasmine Monroe shares emotional message: 'Every night I think about my brother, my uncle, my cousin, myself'

'We can’t stop here. We can’t stop the conversation. We have to continue to keep fighting.'

CLEVELAND — Words are powerful. That was the focus of a story that our own Jasmine Monroe showcased this week regarding Northeast Ohio poets expressing themselves amid the crisis in America.

After the piece aired Friday morning, Jasmine was touched by an e-mail she received from a viewer. It prompted an emotional moment and a powerful message from Jasmine.

Here's what she had to say:

"It becomes really hard to tell these news stories every morning. Every morning trying to shed light on our community. Trying to deliver the news that's fair and balanced as much as we can. It gets hard. Every night I think about my brother, my uncle, my cousin, myself. We've been doing such a good job here at Channel 3, and I hope that we can continue to do it. I truly appreciate messages that I’ve been receiving so far, and just everyone reaching out, checking on us to see if we’re OK. We can’t stop here. We can’t stop the conversation. We have to continue to keep fighting, but it’s hard. It’s hard telling these stories every day. Going from COVID-19 straight into another light of segregation and trying to fight for justice. It’s hard. I’m sorry. Wasn’t trying to go this deep, but.”

Jasmine, we love you.
