CLEVELAND -- For the third year in a row, the most powerful woman in banking is working in Cleveland.
KeyCorp Chairwoman and CEO Beth Mooney again tops an annual list published Wednesday morning by American Banker magazine ranking 25 of the country's female financial leaders.
Mooney's commitment to creating diversity within the Cleveland-based banking chain is strong, the publication reported, pointing out that 25 percent of Key's newest batch of recent college grads were minorities and 36 percent were women, both increases from 2014. She's also credited with tapping a chief diversity officer and a diversity council to keep track of the company's recruiting efforts.
But the magazine said the honor wasn't simply given because her track record of championing the issue.
"She is one of just two female CEOs at a large U.S. banking company, and on her watch, Key has emerged as one of the industry's best-performing regionals," the publication said.
Mooney's not the only Northeast Ohio representative on the group's radar.
Sandy Pierce, vice chairman of Akron-based FirstMerit, came in at number 24 on the list.
KeyCorp's Chief Information Officer Amy Brady was also named as a "woman to watch."
