The victim's name has not been released and his exact cause of death, along with the cause of the fire, remain under investigation.

CLEVELAND — Officials say a 55-year-old man has been found dead following a fire in Cleveland's Mount Pleasant neighborhood Tuesday evening.

According to the Cleveland Division of Fire, crews arrived at the 3200 block of East 123rd Street and found smoke billowing from the second floor of a house. The victim was found on that second floor and taken outside, but paramedics determined that he was dead.

The victim's name has not been released. Per authorities, there were "signs" indicating he may have died prior to the fire, but no official cause of death has been determined and the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner will conduct an autopsy.

The fire has since been put out, with the cause still under investigation. The department says a downstairs resident was able to escape safely.
