CLEVELAND — A Cleveland man wanted in connection to the January shooting death of a 27-year-old man was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Las Vegas Thursday, the Marshals Service said.

Daryl D. Patton, 29, was arrested by members of the Marshals Service-led Nevada Violent Offender Task Force. Nevada Marshals had received a tip from the Northern Ohio Violent Fugitive Task Force that Patton had fled Ohio and was living in a Las Vegas Apartment less than three miles from Paradise, Nevada.

“This violent fugitive fled 2,000 miles across the country in an attempt to avoid arrest," U.S. Marshal Pete Elliott said in a statement. "This collaborative arrest is the ultimate example of the nationwide reach and teamwork amongst the United States Marshals Service."

According to Cuyahoga County court records, Patton had a warrant issued for a murder charge dating back to January of this year. The Marshals Service said Patton was identified as a suspect in the fatal shooting of Martin Johnson, 27, on January 17.

Johnson was found with shooting wounds to the waist by Cleveland police on his front lawn near East 95th Street and Pratt Avenue. The 27-year-old was later pronounced dead at a hospital.
