CLEVELAND -- Homicide detectives are investigating the deaths of a man and woman found dead on Cleveland's south side Friday.
Police say the front door of the home on the 3100 block of Scranton Road had been forced open, and investigators found a 63-year-old man shot in the head, dead on scene. He apparently was an employee at Cleveland State University, and school officers has gone to perform a welfare check after he did not show up to work.
Following a further search, officers also discovered the body of a woman underneath a bed. Authorities say she showed "obvious signs of violence," although it is not yet known specifically how she died.
The CSU victim has been identified as Harold Emery Jr., while the woman has been identified as 54-year-old Rita Berish, according to the Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner. A GoFundMe page and a Facebook fund have both been set up by Berish's family.
Officials are currently investigating this incident as a double homicide, and have not yet made any arrests. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cleveland Division of Police's detective bureau at (216) 623-5464.
