Officers seeking to identify woman in Cleveland Police use of force investigation during George Floyd protests

The incident happened near the Lakeside Avenue entrance of the Justice Center sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. on May 30.

CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Division of Police is asking for assistance in identifying a woman that officers are seeking to interview.

Officials say they want to interview the woman in regards to a 'use of force' incident by a Cleveland police officer during the George Floyd protests on May 30.

The incident happened near the Lakeside Avenue entrance of the Justice Center sometime between 3:30 p.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Last month, officials confirmed that a Cleveland police officer was under investigation for alleged use of excessive force during the riots. The complaint against Officer John Kazimer is being looked into by the Division of Police's Internal Affairs Unit. Exactly what Kazmier is accused of was not specified, and the statement did not say whether he has been placed on modified duty or not.

The division confirms officers that day were given permission to use force following tense clashes at the Justice Center, but it appears Kazimer may be accused of stepping over that line.

As had been occurring in cities throughout the nation, a demonstration calling for justice for the killing of a Minneapolis man named George Floyd, who died while being arrested by four officers on Memorial Day, began in downtown Cleveland on May 30. As the protests progressed, they ultimately became violent, with multiple police cars being set on fire and businesses in the area being vandalized.

Mayor Frank Jackson asked Gov. Mike DeWine to call out the Ohio National Guard to support local law enforcement. The city was also under a curfew for several days.
