ERIE COUNTY, OHIO, Ohio — The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating after Manuel Alvarez-Loreto, a Cleveland man, was killed in a crash on the Ohio Turnpike.
OSHP says the crash happened on Sunday, Aug. 18, at around 5:46 a.m., when a 2007 Ford Focus driven by Alvarez-Loreto was traveling eastbound near milepost 112 in Erie County.
According to officials, a Ford Fusion hit the Ford Focus after the vehicle slowed/stopped in the right lane.
Alvarez-Loreto and his passenger were transported to Fisher Titus Hospital by North Central EMS. As a result of his injuries, Alvarez-Loreto died at the hospital. The passenger, who is also from Cleveland, is in serious condition.
Everyone involved in the accident was wearing their seatbelts during the crash.
The crash remains under investigation.
OSHP was assisted at the scene by North Central EMS and the Ohio Turnpike Commission.
