CLEVELAND — Every sixth month of the year, Pride month is nationally recognized, honoring members of the LGBT + community.
On Friday, the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland announced its partnership with WKYC Studios and the details for Pride in the CLE 2021.
“Pride is a bold and beautiful testament to the history, resilience, joy, and well being LGBTQ+ community now and into the future. We are so pleased to have the privilege to present this year's Pride in the CLE program and Pride Ride in collaboration with WKYC,” said Phyllis Seven Harris, Executive Director of the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland.
The organization is offering two opportunities to celebrate in 2021 after last year's celebrations were impacted due to the ongoing pandemic.
On Friday, June 4, WKYC Studios explored the past, present, and future of Pride in Northeast Ohio during a special broadcasting of "Pride in the CLE" at 7:30 p.m. During the 30-minute show, viewers were able to enjoy the sights and sounds of the LGBT community with special guests and local leaders. You can watch the whole thing again in the player at the top of this story.
"We are excited to partner with the LGBT Center of Greater Cleveland for the annual celebration of Pride in the CLE. From coverage of the Pride Ride to a special show highlighting all the efforts of the Center in the community, we are looking forward to working together,” said WKYC President and General Manager Micki Byrnes.
The second opportunity to take part in the festivities is the "Pride Ride." On Saturday, June 5, participates and organizations are encouraged to show off their pride by dressing up their cars, bikes, trucks, and vans in a distanced ride through the Edgewater and Detroit Shoreway neighborhoods.
The ride will take off from Edgewater Park at 10 a.m. State-mandated safety guidelines will be enforced.
