Police: Third Little Italy assault/robbery suspect arrested

On Dec. 5 about 8 p.m.,  police say three men robbed at least a few victims across Little Italy.

CLEVELAND -- In a Thursday statement, Cleveland Police spokesperson Sgt. Jennifer Ciaccia says Third District detectives arrested Dashaun Newton Wednesday in connection with the Little Italy aggravated robbery incidents back on Dec. 5, 2015.

Newton has not yet been charged.

Police have already arrested two others in connection with the incidents -- David Harrison and Johnchez Philipps, 20.

On Dec. 5 about 8 p.m., police say three men robbed at least a few victims across Little Italy.

One victim was a 61-year-old priest from Holy Rosary Church.

Police officers responded to E. 120th Street and Mayfield Road for a priest who was robbed and pistol-whipped. The priest was leaving Holy Rosary Church and was going to his car in the parking lot when he was assaulted. He suffered minor injuries to his face and hand. He refused medical attention.

Another man in the parking lot was yelling for help. He was then robbed, but not assaulted.

Police say a second call came in for a woman robbed on Coltman Road. She described the same suspects and said they tried to take her purse. Although she resisted, they got away with her wallet. She was not harmed.

Shortly afterward, police say there was another robbery on Euclid Avenue. The victim was a man who had his wallet stolen. He also was unharmed.

According to victims' descriptions, one suspect was wearing all black; one was wearing a gray sweatsuit; and one was wearing a gray jacket. Police say one man had short dreadlocks, but it is unknown which suspect that was.

Police have apprehended David Harrison, though it has not been confirmed whether he has been charged.

Harrison is one of three suspects related to armed robberies and an assault in Little Italy back in early December.
