CLEVELAND — On Wednesday evening, the "Police vs. Fire Hockey Face-Off" game will take place to honor two fallen Northeast Ohio police officers who died in the line of duty this year.
Several organizations will come together in support of the event including The Association of Cleveland Fire Fighters IAFF Local 93, the Cleveland Police Patrolmen’s Association (CPPA), Cleveland Fire Fighters Hockey, the Ohio Association of Professional Fire Fighters, the Fraternal Order of Police, the Cleveland Police Foundation and the Cleveland Monsters.
This year's event will be held in honor of Cleveland police officer Jamieson Ritter and Euclid police officer Jacob Derbin, who were both tragically killed in the line of duty in 2024.
“This first annual Police vs. Fire Face-Off is a combined effort between our two unions. The proceeds will go to the police survivor families who lost loved ones in the line of duty this past year,” said CPPA President Andy Gasiewski.
This year's game will start at 4:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse.
“Our community lost two heroes this year, and it is important that their families know how grateful we are for the service and sacrifice that Officer Ritter and Officer Derbin gave to all of us here in Northeast Ohio. We look forward to supporting our Police Brothers and Sisters at this charity hockey game and invite all members of the public to join us,” said Local 93 President Jake Konys.
