CLEVELAND — Two dogs have died and "several" other pets were rescued following a fire on Cleveland's east side Thursday afternoon, with a member of the department also left injured.
According to the Cleveland Division of Fire, the blaze broke out around 2:30 p.m. at a three-story house near the intersection of Parkwood Avenue and Olivet Drive. Three people inside made it out unharmed, and officials believe the incident was caused by an electrical issue in the attic.
Firefighters were able to get roughly three to four cats out of the structure as well as one of three dogs. Unfortunately, two other dogs perished.
The injured firefighter hurt his left knee and was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center, but has since been released. The three adults who were inside are getting assistance from the American Red Cross.
All told, authorities say the fire caused approximately $60,000 worth of damages.
