EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — Shaw High School was put on lockdown Wednesday after East Cleveland police received information about a person carrying a "pipe bomb and assault rifle" near school grounds.
The call came in at approximately 1:04 p.m. East Cleveland police officers quickly established a perimeter around the school and began investigating the tip.
An ATF bomb dog was used to scan the area for any threats related to the pipe bomb that was reported. No threat was found in relation to the bomb or firearm reported in the initial call according to the East Cleveland Police Department.
The lockdown was lifted shortly after the determination of no ongoing threat.
East Cleveland Schools released a statement following the lockdown that can be seen below.
"This afternoon, district security officials were alerted by local authorities of a possible sighting of an individual carrying an assault rifle and a bomb on Euclid Avenue near Shaw High School. As a precautionary measure, Shaw High School and Prospect Academy were put into a lockdown.
District security officials, in conjunction with East Cleveland Police and surrounding municipalities, reviewed security footage from local businesses and found that no individual matching the description was in the area. District security and local officials also swept Shaw High School as a precautionary measure.
The East Cleveland City School District works closely with local authorities to maintain the safety and security of all students, staff, and community members. Situations like these are treated as real situations until a complete investigation can be completed."
