CLEVELAND — It was May 29, 1995.

It was the day Special Agent William “Billy” Christian, Jr. was murdered in the line of duty.

Today, Christian was honored at the 9th annual FBI Cleveland Division Memorial Service.

Special guests from Cleveland area law enforcement agencies will be in attendance alongside numerous FBI employees.

Christian started with the FBI in 1975, and was assigned to work in Baltimore, Detroit and the Washington Field Office throughout his career.

The FBI says Christian was “shot and killed by Ralph McLean, who was being sought in connection with several police shootings and killings in the District of Columbia and Price George’s County, Maryland.”

McLean snuck up on Christian and shot him while he was sitting in a car.

“FBI agents and local police pursued McLean to a parking garage, where he killed himself with a gunshot to the head.”
