Suspect fleeing from Cleveland Heights traffic stop causes accident, flips car after striking utility pole

Three people were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluations. No information has been released on the status of those injured.

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, Ohio — Police in Cleveland Heights are investigating a crash that resulted in three people being taken to a local hospital.

The incident took place at approximately 12:35 p.m. on Tuesday. A Cleveland Heights police officer attempted to initiate a traffic stop near the intersection of Cedar and Coventry Roads.  As the officer approached the vehicle, the vehicle sped away. 

The officer did not attempt to engage in a pursuit.

As the suspect fled from the attempted traffic stop, it collided with two vehicles at the Cedar and Coventry intersection. The suspect continued to flee the area after the accident heading southbound on Coventry Road. The suspect then struck a utility pole, flipping the vehicle and knocking the utility pole down near the intersection of Fairmount Boulevard.

Three people were transported to local hospitals for medical evaluations. No information has been released on the status of those injured.

The accident caused a traffic pattern interruption for a short time, according to the Cleveland Heights Police Department.

Cleveland Heights police continue to investigate the incident.
