A man is in police custody after stealing a car with a two-year-old child inside and fatally hitting a bicyclist, Friday night.
According to Cleveland police a woman stopped her car at a home on West 44th Street just before 8:30 p.m. The woman entered the home leaving her cousin to watch her car and her two-year-old child inside.
Police say the suspect came up to the woman, assaulted her and took the car with the child inside.
The owner of the car called police and followed the car in another vehicle while communicating with dispatchers.
Police spot the stolen car near W.65th and Lorain Avenue. The car lead police on a chase at high rate of speed. The car then struck a bicyclist in the area of West 45th Street and Bridge Avenue.
The bicyclist, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.
In addition to fatally striking the bicyclist, the suspect also hit a parked car and a tree before being taken into police custody.
The child inside the car did not suffer any injuries, however, one officer was injured while taking the suspect into custody.
