CLEVELAND — Cleveland Police have identified a suspect who is accused of driving a vehicle on the field at FirstEnergy Stadium causing damage to the field last week.
Police records show that a 21-year-old man has been identified regarding the incident, but is not currently in custody. While no charges have been filed, a direct indictment is expected.
The incident occurred on the night of Monday, Nov. 21, with a viral video showing a driver looping tire tracks spanning half the field. While the Browns said that the stunt caused "some superficial damage," tire tracks were still visible during Cleveland's 23-17 overtime win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday.
"We take pride in the strong reviews and reputation of our stadium's playing surface," the Browns said in a statement following the incident. "We have been in touch with the NFL on the matter and are confident after repair our field will be ready for Sunday's game vs. the Tampa Buccaneers."
With its win over the Buccaneers, Cleveland moved to 4-7 on the season. The Browns will return to action on Sunday when they hit the road to face the Houston Texans in what will be star quarterback Deshaun Watson's debut for Cleveland.
