Traffic guide: Getting downtown during the RNC

There will be many road restrictions during the RNC. Greg Dee & Danielle Wiggins show you the best routes to take into downtown and tell you where you won't be able to park once you get there.

Be ready for a longer commute as the RNC has caused road restrictions and closures. The list of closures downtown is extensive.

This article is your one-stop-shop to road closures, detours and ways for making getting into and around downtown Cleveland easier during the RNC.

You can access the complete list of closures from ODOT HERE.

Also, for those who just don't want to deal with the drama, Cleveland's RTA is offering a special one week Convention Pass that will give you unlimited rides from July 17-23 for $20. Get more information here: RTA Fares and Convention Pass

To keep things simple, Greg Dee and Danielle Wiggins have put the information together in simple graphics and videos.

Greg Dee takes a different approach by telling you what he thinks will be the easiest way into downtown based on where you live.

Danielle shows you which exits are open once you get to downtown. See the slideshow for Danielle's graphic on parking restrictions downtown.

Because I-90 is severely restricted near Progressive field, the detours will handle more traffic than normal so expect a longer commute in.

Remember, these are only educated guesses at the best way in. Feel free to share your experience during the commute with Greg (@GregDeeWeather) and Danielle (DaniWKYC) on Twitter so they can pass those suggestions on to others.

Greg Dee says that the best app to use next week for travel will be Waze. You can find out more about it and download it HERE.

Waze relies on automated traffic info as well as reports sent in by actual travelers. This usually means that reports of slowdowns, accidents and police come in faster. It's also more aggressive at routing you around slow spots than Google Maps or Apple Maps. The app is free.
