CLEVELAND — The Cleveland Food Bank is hosting another distribution event Thursday – and this time they’re getting some backup from a major company.

Officials say Tyson Foods has donated a truckload of their products that will provide more than 20,000 pounds of food to those in need within Northeast Ohio.

The distribution event takes place in the Muni Lot from 2-5 p.m. Chomps, the Cleveland Browns mascot, is among the volunteers who will be on hand to greet guests and help load chicken into their vehicles.

Guests are asked to pre-register before attending the Cleveland Food Bank's distribution, which you can do HERE. Organizers ask you bring your registration code and place it in your car window on a piece of paper upon arrival.

“One in four children – and one in six people – in Greater Cleveland lives in a food-insecure household,” Cleveland Food Bank officials said in a press release. “That means that they do not consistently know where their next meal is coming from.”

The Cleveland Food Bank says it has provided meals for more than 404,000 people in partnership with more than 1,000 pantries and hot meal sites. Tyson Foods has donated more than 30 million pounds of protein and 124 million meals in the last year alone.

Like here in Northeast Ohio, food banks across the country have experienced an increased demand due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.
