CLEVELAND — A vigil was held Monday to remember a 6-year-old girl who was fatally shot early Saturday morning.
Lyric Lawson was a student at Hannah-Gibbons in Cleveland's Nottingham neighborhood. Family, friends and loved ones gathered at a bus stop across the street from the school for the vigil.
Lyric was asleep at her home in the 1300 block of 171st Street when shots were fired outside. Several bullets riddled the home, one of them striking her in the head.
"To shoot a house with six kids, I don't even let my kids sleep downstairs but they asked me to watch Sponge Bob," her aunt Deirdre Selmon explained during the vigil. "They wanted to watch TV, that was it. You all took away our safety, our home."
Lyric was transported by EMS to University Hospitals Cleveland medical Center for treatment, where she later succumbed to her injuries.
