Cleveland water main break closes portion of West 159th Street in West Park

Motorists should avoid the area if traveling in that neighborhood this morning.

CLEVELAND — A water main break in Cleveland's West Park neighborhood has shut down a portion of West 159th Street between Fischer Road and Alden Avenue.

Just after 1 p.m., a Cleveland Water spokesperson told 3News that a repair crew is on site and working on repairs to an eight-inch main. The work should be completed "in a few hours."

This morning, officials on scene told our Austin Love there was standing and rushing water down the whole street. The concern, because of the frigid temperatures, is freezing water, which would make travel on West 159th dangerous.

Several utility crews were on the scene just before 7a.m., working to stop the break. We're told the rushing water is worse near the Fischer side.

Drivers are advised to avoid the area until the break is under control.
