CLEVELAND — A 64-year-old woman has been taken to a local hospital after the car she was driving was hit by a train Saturday afternoon in Cleveland.
Police confirm the incident occurred at a railroad crossing near the edge of the Kinsman neighborhood, with fire officials later saying the sedan went around the downed crossing gate before being hit on the side and being dragged about 50 feet. The Norfolk Southern Railway adds it was one of its westbound trains that crashed into the vehicle at the tracks on Aetna Road.
The woman was taken from the scene via ambulance. She is currently in serious but stable condition, per the Cleveland Division of Fire, with the car being completely totaled.
"We thank the first responders who assisted at the scene," Norfolk Southern told 3News in a statement.
