CLEVELAND — Cleveland fire officials say the body of a woman was pulled from Lake Erie on Thursday.
According to the Cleveland Division of Fire, crews were called to the Metroparks' East 72nd Lakefront Reservation Fishing Area at 11:19 a.m. for a report of a person in the water. The call came from officers of the Cleveland Division of Police who were already at the scene.
The division's water-rescue team arrived first and confirmed a body in Lake Erie. Two rescue swimmers suited up, climbed over ice to enter the water, and recovered the body of the female, bringing her to shore.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has identified the woman as 49-year-old Latina Mitchell of Cleveland.
There is no word yet on the circumstances related to Mitchell being in the water. The Cleveland Metroparks Police Department is serving as the lead agency for this incident.
