CLEVELAND — The YMCA of Greater Cleveland's Y-Haven Center is again teaming up with the Cleveland Public Theatre to raise awareness about addiction and homelessness in our community.
This is the 25th year of their collaboration.
Y-Haven is a center that provides temporary housing and treatment for people struggling with addiction to alcohol or drugs. Typically, the people needing help are without strong support systems and are reaching out for a helping hand.
Since October, a group of residents have been working to create a play based on their own life experiences. It's a deep and personal play, designed to not only revisit the past - but create hope for the future. It's all part of the Y-Haven Theatre Project, which teaches performing arts and technical aspects of theatre while addressing critical personal, interpersonal, and job-related skills through a comprehensive process.
The program culminates in the performance and community-wide tour of an original play based on stories from the clients’ lives.
This year's play is called "Troubled Waters" and is going on this weekend at Cleveland Public Theatre’s Gordon Square Theatre. You can see free performances at the following days and times:
- Thursday, Jan. 25 - 7 p.m.
- Friday, Jan. 26 - 7 p.m.
- Sunday, Jan. 28 - 3 p.m.

On Saturday, Jan. 27, there will be a benefit performance of "Troubled Waters" as part of the Y-Haven "Steps & Stages" event. Proceeds from the performance will benefit Y-Haven. Click here to get tickets.
