COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium’s mandrill family welcomed a new addition earlier this month.
Malaika the mandrill gave birth to a healthy baby boy on May 5, the zoo announced on its Facebook. The zoo says both are doing great.
“She continues to be a terrific mom, and dad Mosi is wonderful as always,” the post read.
The new baby, who has not yet been named, joins his big brother Bernard and half-sister Izara.
Izara was born to Hasina and Mosi on June 6, 2023, and Bernard was welcomed in October 2022.
According to the zoo, baby mandrills sleep and eat often, and when the mom is ready, the baby will venture off on his own.
Visitors can visit the mandrill family whenever the zoo is open and see the newborn.
