A 17-year-old died at an area hospital, police said. The four remaining victims, ranging in age from 16 to 17, are expected to survive their injuries.

CLEVELAND — A 17-year-old boy is dead and four teenage victims are injured after a shooting broke out outside the campus of Euclid High School about an hour after the end of a football game Friday night, police said.

Euclid police announced Saturday afternoon that the five teens, all males ages 16 to 17, were shot near East 222nd Street at around 10:15 p.m. All five victims were transported to area hospitals, where one 17-year-old died of his injuries. The four other victims are expected to survive, police said.

The victims' names are not being released. Police said no arrests have been made in connection to the shooting.

According to Euclid police, officers were nearby conducting crowd control after the football game when the shooting happened. Police said the shooting was "not a random act of violence" and that there was no ongoing threat to the public at large."

The Euclid City School District in a statement called the shooting "tragic" and said that the victims included students from its district as well as other local schools. It said the student who died was not a Euclid enrollee.

"While the student was not enrolled in Euclid City Schools, we mourn the loss of a young life and extend our deepest condolences to the family and community," the district said. "Starting Tuesday, counselors will be available at each school every day this week to support our students and staff during this difficult time. We are committed to maintaining a safe and supportive environment and will continue to uphold strict safety protocols in all district buildings.

"Our thoughts are with all those affected, and we remain committed to the safety and well-being of our entire school community."

Euclid police are actively investigating the shooting. Anyone with information is asked to contact the detective bureau at 216-289-8505.
