PARMA, Ohio — Parma Police are investigating an accident that sent two people to the hospital with serious injuries.
The crash happened on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at around 1:13 p.m. at the intersection of Hauserman Road and Deborah Drive in Parma.
Parma Police officials say the accident occurred when a 66-year-old woman attempted to make a left-hand turn from Deborah Drive onto Hauserman Road northbound and crashed with a 19-year-old man driving southbound on Hauserman Road.
The 19-year-old was entrapped in his 2005 Dodge Neon and the woman was ejected from her 2005 Chevrolet Astrovan following the accident.
The Dodge Neon had flames coming from the engine compartment, which was put out by police officers and good Samaritans, who stopped to render aid.
"The male, who was unconscious upon arrival of first responders, was extracted from the auto by the 'Jaws of Life' by Parma Fire Department personnel," Parma Police officials say.
Both drivers were taken to MetroHealth with serious injuries.
At this time, the accident remains under investigation. Parma Police believe that speed was a contributing factor to the crash.
