CLEVELAND — Three people were arrested and charged this week after officers at a traffic stop discovered the occupants of the car all had prior warrants and were allegedly in possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, Westlake police said.
According to a release from the Westlake Police Department, officers stopped a car after pulling out of the WestSpring Inn on Sperry Drive on Monday. The driver, a 39-year-old Cleveland man, told police he did not have a driver's license. The other two passengers, a 42-year-old woman from Fairview Park and a 59-year-old Cleveland man, both had multiple prior warrants, police said.
Police searched the car and allegedly found scales, broken glass pipes and other drug paraphernalia as well as white chunks of a substance police suspect to be crack.
The Fairview Park woman was found to have been wanted in North Royalton as well as Tennessee, while the 59-year-old man allegedly had multiple felony warrants for weapons charges out of Cuyahoga County. Police allege the 59-year-old also lied to officers about who he was.
The driver told police that as the car was being pulled over, he ingested "numerous" tabs of ecstasy, prompting a squad to be called to treat him. The 39-year-old was charged with tampering with evidence and drug paraphernalia. Police say the driver was also wanted by North Olmsted police on previous charges.
The passengers were charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, falsification and drug possession. Further charges are pending the results of lab analysis, police said.
