LAKEWOOD, Ohio — A 33-year-old woman is dead after being shot late Friday afternoon in Lakewood.
Police say the incident occurred around 5:50 p.m., when residents reported hearing multiple rounds of gunfire on Ridgewood Avenue between Detroit Avenue and Franklin Boulevard. Officers then found the woman in a backyard with a bullet wound to her chest, and she later died from her injuries at MetroHealth Medical Center.
According to authorities, three people who were at the scene were taken in for questioning, with witnesses claiming the woman had gotten into an argument with neighbors prior to being shot. Two handguns were apparently recovered from the scene, but all three persons of interest were released with no charges being filed at this time. Police say they are trying to determine the exact details of the argument as well as who fired the shots.
The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has since identified the victim as 33-year-old Anika Coleman of Amherst.
An investigation is ongoing.
